The City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Public Schools have developed a Safe Routes to School Strategic Plan. The plan Minneapolis Safe Routes to School Helping Minneapolis Youth Be Lean and Green generated recommendations for increasing biking and walking to school and established a strong foundation for City and District collaboration.
Individual MPS Schools have also created Travel Plans. These plans lay out Safe Routes to Schools goals and offer step-by-step guides for achieving them. Most of these Travel Plans include goals such as building a Safe Routes network, creating suggested route maps, participating in school-wide walk-to and bike-to events, and establishing walking buses. Each goal identifies the Safe Routes' "E" (Education, Engineering Enforcement, Encouragement, Evaluation) and includes a list of online resources in a green sidebar.
School communities are welcome to use these Travel Plans to map out their own Safe Routes goals, cutting and pasting as fits each school's needs.
