Farm to School Month


October is National Farm to School Month is a celebration of food education, school gardens, and school meals made with healthy, local food. Mark your calendars -- MPS has a variety of Farm to School Month events planned  MPS students, staff, and families can Farm to School Month during distance learning! 

Great Lakes Apple Crunch | October 14  - The Great Lakes Apple Crunch is a fun and easy way to celebrate Farm to School Month! On October 14, MPS Culinary & Wellness Services will serve local apples in ALL district lunchrooms as part of school lunch and for FFVP snacks at participating schools. Click here to learn more.

Eat Local with MPS - We are so excited to have #FarmToSchool items on the menu this school year. We will feature a variety of local, Farm to School foods throughout the month of October. Apple, carrots, radishes, squash, and more! Click here to learn more

National School Lunch Week | October 11 - 15 - Join us in celebrating the importance of school lunch and the critical role school nutrition professionals play in helping children succeed in and out of the classroom. And a reminder that breakfast and lunch are no cost for ALL students this entire school year.

​Virtual Farm Field Trips - Minnesota Ag in the Classroom and Midwest Dairy are hosting a series of FREE Virtual Field Trips in October! Classes and individual students are invited to participate. Meet farmers and tour farms that provide food to Minnesota school cafeterias. Click here to learn more.

USA Team Nutrition Garden Resources - (Pre-K - 6th Grade) Resources to connect nutrition education to school and child care gardens, local farms, and farmers markets.

FoodSpan (Grades 9–12) — Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future — This free, downloadable high school curriculum highlights critical issues in the food system and empowers students to be food citizens.

Farm to School – Growing of Food Documentary - This 30-minute documentary that premiered in the Twin Cities in March 2012 explores the economic advantages and remaining challenges for businesses, farms, schools and communities as we work together to improve our children’s health and education.
