Dear Friends,
Thank you for your invitation to the annual Farm to School BBQ on September 24th. I regret that my schedule does not allow me to attend, but I send my best wishes and thanks to all those who helped make this event possible.
The Farm to School program is a terrific resource for educating students on how our food is grown, where it comes from and what the significant benefits of eating locally raised food are to our health and wellbeing. Furthermore, Farm to School has been a leader in helping children understand the incredible opportunities that exist for careers in our robust agriculture industry.
As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee, I have had the privilege to visit several Farm to School sites and to see their success firsthand. This program is helping countless students be better info1med about healthy food, helping students better understand the importance of taking care of the environment to enable it to grow our food, and has created lasting partnership with farmers and agriculture industry leaders that benefit entire communities. I assure you that I will continue to do my part to help Farm to School programs continue to grow and succeed going forward.
Again, best wishes on the barbecue and many thanks to all in attendance who helped make it possible.
Al Franken
United States Senator
